A New “Word Game”

Over the past few months, simple daily word-based games have risen in popularity. Wordle has become a daily staple for many, and so too have spinoffs, with themes ranging from basketball to math equations.

Inspired by this new “wave” of games, I decided to spend the last few months developing a new word game called Lex. Play it at thelexgame.com.

Lex

Called “Lex” as a play on the word Lexicon, the game tests players’ vocabulary by giving them a set of letters and asking them to come up with words. The rules are as follows:

  1. A daily set of 8 unique letters is provided, each letter with a corresponding point value based on its frequency in English
  2. Guess words anywhere from 3 to 5 letters in length, and letters may repeat
  3. You have 10 valid guesses (invalid words are not counted, and acceptable words are from the Scrabble English Dictionary)

The goal is to reach the day’s top score by finding the 5 highest-scoring words using the 10 guesses.

Closing Thoughts

Any feedback on Lex would be greatly appreciated, so feel free to leave a comment or fill out the game’s feedback form here.

Thanks for reading, and have fun!
